A LOVING REBUKE: Why Comparing Trump’s Conviction to Christ’s Crucifixion is Dangerous

I’ve noticed a few memes floating around comparing Donald Trump’s conviction to Christ’s crucifixion, and y’all, we need to talk. Let's just start with the basics: Jesus was perfect. Can we all agree on that? Good. Now, let's look into why comparing anyone, especially a political figure like our former president, to Christ is not just off base—it's downright dangerous.

The Danger of the Comparison

Comparing Trump’s conviction to the crucifixion of Jesus isn’t just inaccurate; it’s spiritually hazardous. Trump’s conviction is a legal matter with its own complexities and controversies, but it’s a far cry from what Jesus endured. Christ’s crucifixion was the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, the spotless Lamb laying down His life for the redemption of humanity (John 1:29, ESV).

When we start drawing parallels between our political heroes and our Savior, we risk elevating flawed human beings to a place they don’t belong. The danger here is twofold: we diminish the unparalleled sacrifice of Jesus, and we set up political figures as idols, which can lead us away from true worship and reverence for Christ.

Why This Comparison/Parallel  is Harmful

Such comparisons dilute the profound nature of Jesus' sacrifice. Our Savior’s crucifixion wasn’t just a legal proceeding—it was the turning point of all history, an act of love that offers eternal life. Comparing this to any human legal issue undermines the sanctity of what Christ accomplished on the cross.

A Loving Rebuke
Now, let's be clear. This isn’t an attack on who you vote for. This is a gentle reminder that we need to keep our eyes on Jesus and not let our political passions cloud our spiritual clarity.

Emotions run high, especially in the current political atmosphere but let's keep it in perspective. Jesus deserves our highest honor, our deepest reverence. No one—no matter how much we admire them—should be put on His level. As Christians, our allegiance is to Christ above all.

The Call to Worship Christ Alone

Colossians 3:2 (ESV) says, "Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth." This means our ultimate focus should be on Jesus, not political figures. Our worship, our hope, and our faith belong to Christ alone.

Let’s to keep our conversations and comparisons centered on truth. Let’s uplift Jesus as the perfect Savior He is, free from the taint of our earthly politics. And let’s remember to love each other, even when we have to correct each other.

So, the next time you see one of those politically charged faith and politics post, I BEG YOU to pause and reflect. Is this honoring Christ? Is this true to our faith? Let's keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2, ESV).
