He Gets Us: More Than Washing Feet

He Gets Us: More Than Washing Feet

I know we all probably saw the powerful commercial during the Super Bowl where the HE GETS US campaign shows different images of people humbly washing the feet of others. It's a moving image, symbolizing humility, service, and love. But what's the deeper message behind it? Some questioned the "waste" of the money that could used for charity. While others seemed concerned about the "worthiness" of those getting their feet washed (that could be its whole own post). Anywho, as Christians, we know that Jesus "gets" us in so many ways beyond washing feet.

Let's explore some of these truths:

1. He Gets Us to Listen: In John 10:27, Jesus says, "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." When we open our hearts to hear His voice, we can receive guidance and direction in our lives.

2. He Gets Us to Repent: In Luke 5:32, Jesus says, "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Jesus understands our human frailty and our tendency to stray from God's path. He lovingly calls us to repentance, inviting us to turn away from our sins and turn towards Him. Jesus doesn't condemn us for our mistakes; instead, He offers us grace and the opportunity for transformation.

3. He Gets Us to Change: Jesus tells his disciples in John 14:15, "If you love me, keep my commands." Following Jesus isn't just about belief; it's about living out our faith through obedience to His teachings.

4. He Gets Us to Be Baptized: In Matthew 28:19, Jesus commands us to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Baptism is a powerful symbol of our commitment to Christ and our identification with His death and resurrection.

5. He Gets Us to Live Faithfully: Galatians 2:20 reminds us, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me." Through His Spirit, we can live a life that honors God and reflects His love to others.

6. He Gets Us to Love: Jesus summarizes the greatest commandments in Matthew 22:37-39, saying, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind... Love your neighbor as yourself." Love is at the heart of the Christian faith, and Jesus empowers us to love others as He has loved us.

7. He Gets Us to Heaven: Finally, Jesus assures us in John 14:6, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Through His sacrificial death on the cross, Jesus provides the way for us to experience life with Him in heaven.

As you think on these, let's remember that Jesus "gets" us in every aspect of our lives. He knows us intimately and desires to lead us into a deeper relationship with Him. If you're struggling or seeking to learn more about Jesus, we're here for you. Reach out to us, and let us pray for you and help you on your journey of faith. Remember, God loves you more than you can imagine.

Let's continue to walk in His love and share His message of hope with the world!
